On Thursday 20th June, I’ll be taking part in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, in Newcastle. The annual event is a major fundraiser to help the homeless.
The Vinnies CEO Sleepout is a one-night event over one of the longest and coldest nights of the year. Hundreds of CEOs, business owners as well as community and government leaders sleep outdoors to support the many Australians who are experiencing homelessness. Each CEO Sleepout participant commits to raising thousands of dollars to help Vinnies provide essential services to the people who need them.
Until I registered to take part, I hadn’t considered how broad the homelessness issue was. It is so much more than flicking 20c to the guy on the corner. Issues such as Domestic Violence, Financial Stress, Mental Health Issues, even the simple fact of waiting for public housing to come up.
